1st December at The Brewery in London: One of 2014’s biggest nights for the UK’s used car market as the great and the good get together for the Car Dealer Used Car Awards. Across 21 different categories all aspects of the used car market are represented with plaudits going to the best performers over the past 12 months.
Our clients and partners were well represented this year – having been nominated in several categories. Critically (for us at least), two of the five used car retailers nominated for ‘Used car website of the year’ (Nicholas Mee & Co. and HR Owen) base their sites on our NetDirector platform, so naturally we were rooting for their success. On top of these hopefuls, we also had our fingers crossed for Sun Motors – shortlisted in the ‘Used car product of the year’ category and another NetDirector-based platform.
Used Car Website of the Year
Upon the night, our hopes were fulfilled as Nicolas Mee & Co. picked up the prize for ‘Used car website of the year’ – massive congratulations are in order! The appointed Aston Martin specialist has a fantastic online strategy which revolves around its main site. Packed full of informative content such as a model guide detailing Aston Martin through the years and with a focus on video to help promote its specialist stock, Nicholas Mee & Co. successfully blends brand heritage and modern tech.

Back in February we documented how one of the videos produced for Nicholas Mee went viral – globally. This success isn’t unique; for overseas buyers who are wishing to make a specialist purchase from the company, a detailed video of a particular vehicle has been a key part in a sale being agreed. Tools such as Live Chat and social media integration simply add to the reasons the company is a worthy winner.
Used Car Product of the Year
Another NetDirector-based victory on the night went to Sun Motors for ‘Used car product of the year’. This relative newcomer to the classifieds area of the market has proven itself popular thanks to its innovative pay per lead-based model, meaning if dealers aren’t getting leads, they’re not paying. In addition, its responsive architecture means users don’t have to download an app to use the full functionality of the site.
Alongside these victors, several GForces clients were highly commended in their fields, so we must extend congratulations to them too.
In the coming years the used market is going to become ever-more important as the push for new car volume returns to more stable times, not to mention the inevitable influx of returning PCP vehicles. This will put more pressure on used car dealers to achieve good margins with a swelling market of similarly aged vehicles. Despite these challenges, the Car Dealer Used Car Awards demonstrate that the sector is in very good hands.
