Taking part in the world’s biggest coffee morning

Today GForces took a rare break from developing software to indulge in a bit of gluttony. As you may be aware, MacMillan Cancer Care holds its annual coffee morning at this time of year and with so many aspiring Mary Berrys and Paul Hollywoods in the business, it would be rude for us not to join in.

IMG_2906In fact, MacMillan reckons that this is the world’s biggest coffee morning, with businesses, organisations and individuals up and down the land joining in to help raise money for the cause. Last year, the coffee morning raised around £25 million – a staggering amount, but vital to keeping this amazing organisation afloat. And with annual expenditure of over £150 million, the donations from the coffee morning make a significant contribution to the charity.

Among the delicacies on offer at GForces were a host of cookies, brownies and cupcakes, as well as sugar free options for those more health conscious types. All of these were on sale through the day, tempting people away from their desks to spend a few coins and raise money – certainly when the cake sale email went out at 11am desks were quickly vacated!

Come the end of the day, all the cakes were sold and most GForcers a little bit heavier. But on the plus side we raised over £134 for MacMillan Cancer Care, and enjoyed ourselves whilst doing so.
