Two teams, two bangers, one destination and no rules. Needless to say the two GForces teams didn’t hold back on Top Gear style pranks to each other.
Their journey began in Dover where they met the other Bangers4Ben teams in full fancy dress. The likes of Darth Vader, The Stig, The Super Mario Brothers and Baywatch were all in attendance with the GForces lot donning 70’s cop outfits, tashes and wigs.
Upon arriving in Calais in the two vehicles kindly donated by McCarthy Cars, team 2 (the BMW 528i) sped off losing team 1 (the Volvo V70) however a terrible sat-nav sent team 2 in the wrong direction via central Riems whilst team 1 went around. Unlucky!
Both made it to the first pit stop Bourg-en-Bresse at around 6pm to enjoy a few beers and a steak dinner.
And so the pranks start as team 1 sneaked out and sabotaged team 2’s car with childlike stickers and sniggered to themselves as they crept back inside. Team 2 snuck out thinking they’re ahead of the game and sabotage team 1’s car by putting tuna in the air vents not knowing their car had already been attacked.
Setting off early the next morning, with a faint smell resembling Chatham’s dock yard, they headed to Mont Blanc Tunnel with a quick fuel stop and some tom foolery – having a bonnet sliding competition. Alas this caused a huge bum dent in team 1’s bonnet…oops! On the other side of the Mont Blanc tunnel our teams picked up two more team members in the form of Alice Cooper teddy bears from a friendly truck driver. We have since discovered these bears cost around $30…kerching! The cars then got a little more battered and bruised as team 1 decided to rear end team 2 at a toll booth, so in retaliation team 2 reversed up ONTO team 1’s bonnet. It’s not like we need to auction these cars off for charity or anything…
So our teams continued on their journey with a few more sat-nav special detours passing through Genova and Portofino before reaching the Ferrari hotel at 7:30pm. In the home town of Ferrari they ate at the Ferrari restaurant, drank sparkling Ferrari red wine and sipped coffee with Ferrari sugar. They then saw the Ferrari store and factory finishing up at the famous Ferrari gates.
Prank time commenced again as the Baywatch car was stolen and dumped at a nearby roundabout and the Fiat Cinquento was turned around sideways in the parking space thus blocked in.
The next morning our teams toured the Ferrari museum observing the beautiful cars and engines before leaving Maranello at 10am. Of course the home of Lamborghini was only half an hour away so it would be rude not to start the journey home via Sant’Agata in Bologna. After cleaning up the puddle of drool, our teams headed back to Bourg-en-Bresse for the Bangers4Ben awards organised by CarDealer Magazine. The GForces teams won best fancy dress for their terrible 70’s cop impersonation before heading home the following day with a model Ferrari Enzo and more silverware for the GForces boardroom.
