27 iconic locations in an iconic car

Icon – Noun: A person or thing regarded as a representative symbol or as worthy of veneration.

The dictionary definition of an icon is sensible enough, but one person’s icon isn’t necessarily the same as someone else’s. We all have our own idea of icons; places, people and objects that evoke strong emotions tying us to them in one way or another. Many of these are shared by the masses, but many more are very personal and remain that way – often forever.

However, everyone’s icons have a value, and sharing them joins people together in mutual appreciation. It’s this challenge – to unite people around personal icons – which GForces is undertaking.

What are we doing?

Courtesy of Mazda, we have been given an all-new, Soul Red Mazda MX-5 – one of the most exciting cars to have been recently released – in which our people will have the opportunity to travel to places that are iconic to them. These won’t necessarily be recognisable landmarks or renowned towns and cities. They’re personal to the individual and might include the place where they had their first kiss; the road they travelled where they had the drive of their life; or even their favourite fish and chip shop. Whatever the location, to the individual, it will be important.

It’s not just the destination, however. The Mazda MX-5 has been around for an astonishing 27 years. Arguably, it redefined the sports car, taking the best elements of classic British examples such as the Lotus Elan and adding Japanese engineering to the equation.

But it was more than that which led to the 1989 ‘NA’ original and subsequent variants becoming the world’s best-selling sports car. The MX-5 has always had an intoxicating blend of suppleness, usability and most of all, great fun. From the first-generation car to the all-new model the dedication to this formula hasn’t wavered. Excellence in engineering is all-too present in the new model which boasts Mazda’s SkyActiv technology, offering performance and supreme efficiency, and advanced suspension makes the drive sporty, yet still comfortable. It’s also the lightest MX-5 since the first generation car, adding to the car’s supreme driving experience.

The Mazda MX-5 is, in itself, a bona fide icon.

Keeping it social with #27Icons

So there will be quite a few GForcers who’ll be taking the all-new Mazda MX-5, an iconic car, to 27 iconic locations and enjoying amazing drives along the way. It’s the kind of road trip we think people will want to be a part of, and that’s why we’ll be sharing our adventures across GForces’ social media, staff’s personal posts, our blog and video. All this activity will help us create a big, exciting picture of personal icons – a montage of people, places and drives that stir up emotions and can be shared widely.

Join us for the ride, keep up to date using #MX5 #27icons on Facebook and Twitter, and check back here regularly. Get involved in the conversation on social media too – we’d love to hear about your iconic locations and why they mean so much to you. This is not just our journey. It’s yours too.
